Expertise and Professional Background

Peter Tarn is Chairman of the Harneys Executive Committee.

Peter specialises in all aspects of BVI corporate law and is consistently ranked as one of the leading corporate lawyers in the jurisdiction by Chambers and Partners, IFLR and Legal 500. He was particularly influential in the introduction of the BVI Insolvency Act 2003, and also had significant input on the BVI Business Companies Act. Peter sits on a number of BVI Government advisory committees, and is actively involved in the IFC Forum, a member organisation established to provide authoritative and balanced information about the role of international financial centres in the global economy. Peter is also a Member of the Board of Directors BVI Finance Limited, a public-private partnership which works to promote the BVI’s financial services industry.

Peter joined Harneys in 1997, became a partner in 2000, and has held roles including Global Head of Banking & Finance and Head of Harneys Fiduciary. His client base comprises major financial institutions and corporates throughout the world. Prior to joining Harneys, Peter worked at the London office of Allen & Overy from 1990-1997, where he specialised in emerging market debt.
