Expertise and Professional Background
Michelle Frett-Mathavious is a partner in Harneys’ Banking and Finance Department. She has over 14 years of experience advising onshore law firms, banks and other financial institutions, funds and corporates on finance and corporate matters related to BVI and Anguilla law.
Michelle regularly advises in relation to syndicated finance, structured debt, asset finance, bond and note issuances, project finance, property finance transactions, insolvency, receivership and Islamic finance. She has worked on a number of complex and high profile finance transactions and has extensive expertise in property and project finance transactions in Asia and Europe.
Michelle’s recent experience includes advising the Special Liquidator of the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation Limited (formerly Anglo Irish Bank) on the sale of a €7.3 billion portfolio of non-performing commercial real estate loans. Michelle has extensive recent experience advising banks in connection with high-value commercial and hotel property developments in Hong Kong and mainland China and she also recently advised in connection with the billion-dollar purchase of an online gambling group.
Michelle is recommended as a leading finance lawyer in the British Virgin Islands by IFLR1000, which describes Michelle as “providing exemplary service” and being “very responsive”. Michelle is also a Notary Public of the BVI. She joined Harneys in 2002.
